About The Club |
 |
The Shih Tzu Club of South Wales & Western Counties was founded back in the 1980's. At the time the number of Shih Tzu being registered at the Kennel Club was rising quite dramatically and it was obvious that our chosen breed was getting very desirable, and who could blame anyone. But what was also obvious was that the breed would need a great deal more protection in the future, and at this time there were only 2 Clubs to which this responsibility would fall. Small groups would casually talk amongst themselves at the shows, and certain areas were forming other clubs. Mr Les Williams and the late Stephanie Williams organised an inaugural meeting at Usk Memorial hall which was very well attended, in attendance were some long standing Kennel Club members who were also all-round top Judges. Mr David Samuels became our Patron, Mr Alwin Harding our President and Mrs Irene Booth & Mr Jack Booth became our Chairperson & Treasurer respectfully. Our Secretary's position was filled by Diana Harding. The rest of the Committee was duly elected and the Club was accepted by the Kennel Club. We were very fortunate to have good guidance in the beginning from our eminent senior officers, this was a very daunting responsibility. We were also very fortunate to have a committee who worked very well together & without a doubt this added up to a successful Club.
The Club remains a successful one, offering a Championship show every spring, an Open show every Autumn as well as seminars and other events. |
