Judge Mrs Gwynne Goodwin.

A pleasure to judge this wonderful breed at the Shih Tzu Club of South Wales & Western Counties. This hard working committee ran a very pleasant efficient show and my thanks to them. My two stewards were very helpful and ran the ring very smoothly. Thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing their dogs for me to judge, a lovely entry and some very good dogs to go over.

On the down side I was surprised to see a few wry jaws…. is this is a new fault creeping into the breed?  Short ribs with long loin still persist and some uncharacteristic expressions can be found. In spite of this I was delighted with my winners and some very good dogs went down the line.


Veteran Dog (3,1AB)

1. Mr &Mrs Williams. Paliden Shining Star, 8years old. Deep red gold / white dog with good lay back of shoulder, spring of rib and outline, well bodied with deep chest. Beautiful expression, good pigmentation and dark eyes. Moved very well.

1. Mrs B. Turner. Tameron Mr Givenchy, 8years old. Pale Gold / white. Lower to ground than 1, stocky and firm in body, good balance, good head shape and expression, well presented coat.

Minor Puppy Dog (6,1AB)

1. Mrs M. Diffey. Cloughlea I’m a Believer for Marhilway. 9months old and very mature for his age. Gorgeous gold/ white in wonderful puppy coat. Superb head to tail balance. A head to die for, excellent mouth, eyes, nose placement and skull shape.  Well ribbed, short loin, deep chest and good top line. Good movement both fore and aft. A true old fashioned Shih Tzu type. (Best puppy dog).

1. Mrs J Anderton. Pekoe One Direction 6moths old and the only direction for this gorgeous puppy is UP. Beautiful headed gold/ white dog with the sweetest of expressions, good topline, balance and movement. Very confident for one so young and I am sure will go very far. Unlucky to meet 1.

Puppy Dog (3 )

1. Mrs K Herring. Weatsom Margaret’s Legacy. 9months Pale gold/ white, stocky boy with good balance and well carried tail. Lovely head and expression with dark eyes, good pigment, nose placement and full dentition. Good well presented coat.
2. Miss J Moore. Paliden Make Me a Star Via Jartzu Deep Red Gold/White puppy with lovely neck and top line. Much to like just needs to mature in body.
   

Junior Dog (4)

1. Miss S Johnson. Keytor All That Jazz. Stunning Gold/ White dog in fabulous coat. Just over 12months he really is the business with his super head to tail balance, beautiful head, expression, dark eye and good dentition. Good topline, spring of rib and short loin he powered around the ring to win himself the RCC.

1. Mr & Mrs R. J. Gracey. Debshores Fifty shades of Gold.  Just out of puppy this aptly named dog is in wonderful beautifully presented coat. Very well bodied, good deep chest, spring of rib and short in loin. The most exquisite head and expression. Very good top line. Moved very well.

 

Post Graduate Dog (9 1 AB)

Some very nice dogs in this class.

1. Mrs J Bradshaw & Mrs M Symonds. Cremefern Sweet Talkin Guy J.W Very showy red/white dog in good well presented coat with the whitest possible whiskers. Very good outline with excellent head to tail balance. Good dentition, lovely head shape and expression. Went very well.

1. Mrs M Diffey. Marhilway The Edge Factor. Super young dog of “the old type” full of substance and breed type. Deep broad chest, excellent spring of rib and good lay back of shoulder. Good correct textured coat. The head and expression is second to none. Close up to 1 and could change places another day.

Lovely class.

1. Mrs V Goodwin. Chelhama Tuxedo. My notes say fabulous! This black and white dog came into the ring with his correct textured, perfectly groomed coat. His head is the essence of a true Shih Tzu with his full dark eye, broad skull, the correct width between the eyes, tip tilted nose, and jaw wide with good dentition all making a wonderful expression. Lovely neck line, broad deep chest, good spring of rib, good top line and well balanced head to tail.  Moved very well both fore and aft. I just loved him and had no hesitation giving him the very well deserved CC.

1. L C Wilson. Debshores Wiggle AN A Kiss. Super, very well balanced pale gold and white male. The expression is quite lovely with his fine dark eyes, good tip tilted nose placement and good skull shape. Perfect dentition, super outline, and good tail carriage.  Terrific mover he really covered the ground keeping his very good outline as he powered around the ring.

Open Dog (4 1 AB)

1. Mrs D Mcintyre. Ch Shanitaus Mane Attraction J.W  Stunning male in full beautifully presented gold/ white coat. Masculine with a superb head shape and expression. Fine dark eyes, good pigmentation, and wide jaw with the correct dentition. Good top line, broad deep chest, good spring of ribs, very well balanced. A very worthy Champion.
2.  Mr & Mrs Stevens. PeekinTsemo-Tu. Smaller type gold and white dog in wonderful well presented coat.  Nice head and expression. Very good outline, with very good head to tail balance. Moved very well both fore and aft keeping his lovely outline on the move.

Veteran Bitch  (2)

1.     M. Carter & S Leigh. Gladmin Shakia. 10year old Pale / Gold and white bitch in fabulous coat and condition. Super outline with very good head to tail balance. Very feminine head with lovely dark eyes and very good nose placement. Moved very well keeping her lovely outline on the move. Best Veteran.

2.     Mrs V. Goodwin Ch. Chelhama Leading Light 9 years old deep red and white beautifully coated bitch. Very pretty with lovely eyes, nose placement and expression. Good head to tail balance. Good body well sprung ribs and lay back of shoulder. A very worthy champion.

Minor Puppy Bitch (7 2 AB)

All 5 lovely puppies were a pleasure to judge and will change places many times in the future I am sure.

1. Mrs G Gilkes. Zeeva Hot Attraction and she certainly is red hot.  Stunning gold and white puppy in beautiful puppy coat. Lovely head with good skull shape, nose placement and dark eyes. Very good shoulders, ribs and deep chest. Correct dentition. Wonderful outline with very good head to tail balance. Moved very well both fore and aft and just beat my stunning best puppy dog by a whisker to take Best Puppy in Show.

1.  Mr J Somers. Zeeva Shadow Dancing with Meilijo. Litter sister to number one and again a lovely Gold / white puppy in beautiful coat. Very good out line and head to tail balance. Lovely head with a gorgeous expression, good dark eyes and nose placement. Moved very well. Will give her sister some tough competion in the future.

 
Puppy Bitch (5)

Again 5 lovely puppies which is very encouraging for the future of the breed.

1. Mrs M Diffey. Marhilway Mirror Edge. Delightful Gold / white Puppy in lovely puppy coat. Beautiful headed puppy with tilt tipped nose, very good stop, and broad jaw with correct dentition. Very good topline, good well sprung ribs, deep broad chest and short in loin.  Went very well keeping her lovely topline on the move.
2. Mr & Mrs Williams. Paliden Star Chaser. Very close up to number 1, really splitting hairs between the two of them. This apricot gold puppy is in very good coat, has a very good outline and balance. Lovely neck line, topline and balance. Lovely expression with dark full eyes, good pigment, nose placement and correct dentition. Moved very well.

Junior Bitch (5)

1. Mr & Mrs Williams. Diamoind Diva at Paliden. Solid Gold with a black mask. Beautifully coated and presented youngster with its lovely outline and head to tail balance. Perfect dentition, dark eyes, good pigment and good tip tilted nose placement all contributing to a beautiful expression. Moved very well both fore and aft.

1. Mrs V Williams-Wegmann. Keytor Red Wedding for Essvana. Gorgeous Red/ White beautifully presented girl with super outline, good neck, topline and head to tail balance. Pretty head, good dentition, nose placement and pigment. Also moved very well indeed. Very close up to number 1.

Post Graduate Bitch (5)

1. Mrs Gilkes. Zeeva Letz Do It.  Another wonderful bitch from this kennel.  Red gold / white. Really super outline, with well set tail and excellent head to tail balance. Gorgeous expression, with excellent skull shape, nose placement and good dentition. Dark lovely eyes complete the picture. Moved with drive and purpose and I was very happy to give her the RCC.
2. Mrs F Yorke. Minfaa Gypsy Queen at Middletune. Pale gold and white, again another well balanced bitch with good neck and tail carriage. Stocky, with good ribs, chest and shoulders. In beautifully presented coat. Went very well both fore and aft.

Limit Bitch (9 1 AB)

1. Mrs J Anderton. Pekoe Star Attraction Lovely gold / white bitch in a very good, well presented coat. Very good outline with her well set tail, level topline and fine, well carried neck. Nice expression, good mouth, and skull shape. Of lovely type she moved very well keeping her excellent top line on the move.
2. Mr & Mrs Williams. Diamoind Diva at Paliden my winner of the Junior bitch class.

1. Mrs Diffey Marhilway. She’s Got The Edge. Gold and White bitch in beautiful, very well presented coat.  I was looking for near perfection and here it was.The absolute best balance of the day. Every dog has its day and it certainly was hers!  The top line and head to tail balance of this bitch is second to none. Her perfect movement shows off her excellent construction. A head and expression to die for, soft dark eyes, wide jaw, tip tilted nose, lovely skull shape complete this delightful picture. Showed herself off from the minute she entered the ring and she didn’t put a foot wrong. A 100% performance gave her the BCC, (which gave her, her very well deserved crown) B.O.B and later Best in Show beating the super DCC winner (RBIS).

1. Mr M Russell & Mr J Jones. Ch Rosaril Snogs and Snuggles at Matsuba. Solid Gold bitch in wonderful beautifully presented coat. Lovely dark round eyes, good nose placement, good skull shape lovely wide jaw with full dentition. Good head to tail balance, good spring of rib and deep broad chest. Moved well with a particularly fine rear action. A worthy champion.
